The capital city of Slovakia has a lot to offer you. From castles and cathedrals to palaces and pubs, you will get it all here. While most people come to Slovakia for the exciting opportunities of adventure sports, there are others who are rather charmed by the country’s natural beauty and rich heritage. Whether you want to take a look at Slovakia’s past, or indulge in its present, there are places that will satiate your desires. While the castles will take you back in time, the modern pub culture will leave you wanting more. To have the best time in Bratislava, you must visit the following spots:

Bratislava Castle:
The location itself makes the Bratislava Castle so appealing to both tourists and the locals alike. Also called as Hrad, the Bratislava Castle is situated on top of a hill. From this location, you can see the entire city below. You can imagine what a great view it must be! Originally the castle was constructed in the 9th century, and it was used as Roman frontier. However, it was destroyed by a fire in 1881, and the reconstruction took place in the mid 1900s. Although the exterior of the castle is nothing magnificent, you should visit it because of the museums that are housed inside the castle. And of course, the panoramic views are simply breathtaking!

St Martin’s Cathedral:
If you like to admire gothic architecture, the St Martin’s Cathedral is definitely a must-visit for you. Located just at the edge of Old Town, the Church was originally built following the Romanesque style in the 13th century. It was, however, revamped with a 3-nave gothic dome in the latter part of the 14th century. The current version of the cathedral was consecrated in 1452, and it underwent a number of lengthy constructions in the following centuries. During the 16th century, the Dome was primarily used as the coronation church of the Hungarian kings. Till the 19th century, 19 Hungarian emperors were officially crowned in this church. The St Martin’s Cathedral was actually built on the outer walls of the town as a part of its fortification.

Primatial Palace in Bratislava:
Situated at the centre of Old Town, the Primatial Palace was built in 1778. Considered as one of the most beautiful buildings in Bratislava, the palace is one of the sites that is worthy of a visit. The exterior of the building is coloured in a combination of white and pink, and the appearance is enhanced by large cast iron cardinal’s hat and marble statues. This palace was built for the archbishop and the hat symbolises him and the numerous cardinals that lived here throughout the years.

These are only the three view-worthy sites that you need to visit in Bratislava. There are, however, plenty of other names to add to your itinerary. Just do your research and make sure you make the most of your experience of visiting Slovakia.
